Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Q: What is ClearPortsm?
A: The NYMEX ClearPortsm technology network is a flexible system offering market participants wide latitude in meeting their risk management needs while taking advantage of the financial depth and integrity of the Exchange clearinghouse. It consists of the NYMEX ClearPortsm trading platform, through which a slate of energy futures contracts are available for competitive trading; the NYMEX ClearPortsm clearing website, which allows market participants to submit transactions directly for clearing as well as exchange of futures for swaps or physicals transactions; and NYMEX ClearPortsm confirmations, a service that allows market participants to ensure that bilateral transactions are correctly executed by the buyer and seller.

NYMEX ClearPortsm is an open system, which will allow trading firms to use front-end applications that best fit their trading requirements. The system lets commercial traders quote transactions in standard commercial units, such as barrels or British thermal units, while converting them to cleared contract equivalents. It uses enterprise-wide credit limits across both traded and cleared-only transactions to allow for prudent risk management. It also supports negatively priced contracts allowing the trading of basis differentials, and is scaleable, allowing for future growth.
